Guess the Sort is a quick activity that can be used as a morning activity, warm up, or partner activity. After you introduce your class to Guess the Sort include this activity with your emergency lesson plans. It is a great way to review skills.
Display the sort in a pocket chart or use a document camera. In journals, students will write how the pictures are sorted and make a list of other words that could be included with the sort.
Partner A sorts the pictures. Partner B guesses the sort. May not use all of the pictures each time. Then partners switch roles.
Answer for guess my sort: treasure chest, trumpet, stoplight, snail, and flower. SORT: BLENDS
What are some other ways these pictures could be sorted?
SORT – THINGS WITH LEGS: people in rocking chairs, ladybug, lizard, man with trumpet
SORT – LIVING THINGS: man with trumpet, ladybug, lizard, people in rocking chair, snail, flower
Using food is one of my favorite ways to excite students about learning. Have you used cocoa and sugar to introduce blends? You can read more about ways to teach blends here.
