The time spent teaching class procedures at the beginning of the year pays dividends throughout the year. Your students line up many times in different places throughout the school day. This is a procedure that you should spend extra time practicing.
CUTTING IN LINE
Every student has a place in line. Assign a line order so students know their assigned place in line. This is an easy way to prevent students from cutting in line. Put your students in alphabetical order and assign each student a number based on the order. You and your students will quickly memorize the number order. You can easily see who is missing when your class lines up at the end of recess with line order. Your substitutes will appreciate the line order, too!
LINE UP RHYMES
See you later, alligator is a fun way to say goodbye. Hang a pocket chart near the door and add different line up rhymes to the chart. Add line up rhymes to your dismissal procedures. Review rhyming words and line up procedures equals a win-win!
