The first week of school is a busy time for teachers. Children’s books can help with the back to school stress. Use read alouds to help with your overwhelming to-do list. It is hard to find the enough time to get to know your students, teach class procedures, give beginning of the year assessments, and all of the other tasks on your growing list. Integrate some of these tasks with books so you can check things off your to-do list quicker.

FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL: Integration Ideas #2
Children’s Books with Substitute and New Student Procedures
You may get a new student during the school year. Keep a copy of the forms, newsletters, and other handouts that you are sending home to parents the first week of school, so you can send them home with the new student. It is helpful to have an extra desk with school supplies ready to go because you will not usually get advanced notice. Read the book, New Kid from the Black Lagoon, after your new student is settled into your class.
Black Lagoon books can be used at any time of the year. Include them with your emergency sub plans. A wide range of ages like these books. Reminder: Don’t forget to make your emergency sub plans sooner rather than later.
